I cannot begin to say how thankful I am to have received these supplies and materials. The morning the box arrived I left the box on the counter and all of the students were so very excited about what was inside the box. Once I opened the box an explained that their are kind people all over the country who donated money to purchase things so we can have a better classroom their faces lit up. It touched my heart that you were able to fund my project to purchase the materials. The mystery box and alphabet phone center has been the biggest hit so far. We use the mystery box as a transition into our language part of the day. Several students walk up an ask all throughout the day can we play it. The phone center brings smiles upon their faces as they hear themselves speak. A few have even discovered that they talk really loud! The magnetic write and wipe strip has been extremely helpful with large group writing practice as we work on forming upper an lowercase letters. The photo name plates still await all parents permission to take their pictures, but once I have them and it is a work in the classroom I know they will be extremely excited. The primary journals will be used for daily writing practice so they are able to see the progression of their writing.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful donation to help us get a new classroom carpet! The students were so excited when it was delivered to the classroom. They couldn't believe how big it was. (I couldn't either!) once we got it unrolled and set up near our classroom, library, there was much talk about what color square they would get to sit on when they picked new "carpet seats."

The rug is wonderful. It is so large that it fits our entire class of 25 students when we sit in a circle, so that no one has to sit on the floor! It has really brightened up the classroom and the kids love having their own personal square to sit on.

Have you ever seen a classroom where the students had to sit on the cold hard floor?! My classroom is lacking a rug for my students to sit on in the meeting area. Right now, the students are sitting on the cold, hard floor. Our old rug had to be thrown out this year because of sanitary reasons.
This year I have 29 students in my class, 12 of whom are students that have learning disabilities. The students from my class live in a very poor, urban neighborhood with mostly immigrant families who speak little to no English at home. So besides the fact that they have learning disabilities, English is not their first language so this compounds the problem and adds an extra challenge to learning for them. My classroom is set up with two meeting areas, one of which we have a rug for, but our second meeting area, where the whole class meets for lessons and instruction, is lacking a carpet to sit on, so the students have to work on the floor. These students need a warm and nurturing environment to learn and deserve a beautiful carpet to sit on while they work their hardest to learn how to read, write, and count.

The meeting area is the heart of the classroom. It is where the teacher and students gather for discussions about many different topics, and where the students receive all their lessons and instruction. Currently, my 1st graders are going to come into a room where there is no carpet to welcome them into the meeting area. The carpet makes the whole room feel more warm and inviting, and helps to focus the students in on where they need to be and why they are at school. The carpet that I have requested has individual squares for seating, so each student has his/her own space to learn.
This carpet is so important because it will be used every single day, for the majority of the day by my students when they are being taught math, when they are practicing their reading and writing, and also while working with one another on projects or in centers. It is a vital part of the classroom environment! « hide
